From your first cell to a shared workbook.
Emberkit Sheets combines a spreadsheet editor with views for everyday project work. Work in one browser tab without an account, or connect an Emberkit account to save and share in the cloud.
1. Open or create your workbook
- Open your workspace and choose Create workbook.
- For a working example, choose Launch tracker, Monthly budget or Customer pipeline.
- To use an existing file, choose Import XLSX or CSV. Read the import warning and verify important formulas. A downloaded Emberkit JSON backup can also be reopened.
- Give your workbook a clear name at the top. Unsaved work exists in this tab until you save or export.
2. Work with cells and formulas
- Click a cell and type. Double-click to edit its existing contents. Use Tab or Enter to move through the grid.
- Start a formula with an equals sign, for example
=SUM(B2:B10)or=IF(C2>B2,"Over budget","OK"). - Use the toolbar for formatting, number formats, filters, sorting, data validation and conditional formatting. Right-click a row, column or cell for relevant actions.
- Use the sheet tabs at the bottom for additional worksheets. Undo and redo are available in the editor.
- Select a destination cell, open Formula helper, adapt a template to your columns, and choose Insert in selected cell. This helper does not use AI or send cells to another service.
3. Turn a table into a project view
Put column names in the first row. Each following row is one record. The Launch tracker template shows the expected structure.
- Choose Board and select a title column and status column. Editors can move cards by changing their status selector.
- Choose Agenda and select a due-date column. Use YYYY-MM-DD dates or spreadsheet date values.
- Choose Timeline for a duration overview. It currently shows start/end dates and durations; it does not automatically schedule dependencies.
- Choose Insights for group counts and numeric totals. Totals include every numeric row, including any subtotal rows you entered.
- Return to Sheet to edit detailed values. Views use the active worksheet.
4. Save to your cloud account
- Choose Sign in / Sign up. The account is shared with Emberkit PDF, Images, Forms and Invoices.
- After signing in, return to Sheets and choose Connect account if needed.
- Choose Save to cloud. This uploads the workbook contents to your private account.
- Cloud saving is manual in this release. Save after changes and before closing your tab. Check the saved version number.
- Your saved workbooks appear in the sidebar. Open the same workspace on another device, sign in and select the workbook.
5. Share and see who is here
- Save your workbook, then choose Share.
- Ask the recipient to create an Emberkit account and verify their email in Account settings. Enter that account email.
- Choose Viewer (open and export) or Editor (edit and comment), then Grant access. Editor sharing requires Pro or Team.
- Choose Copy workbook link and send it to the recipient yourself. No invitation email is sent automatically.
- The recipient signs in and opens the link. The collaborator bar shows their name and whether they are editing or viewing.
- Presence refreshes every 10 seconds. Closing, hiding or disconnecting a tab removes its presence, with a maximum stale window of about 35 seconds. Multiple tabs from the same person appear as one person.
- The owner can change or remove access in Share. Removed members cannot make new cloud requests. Removing access cannot erase copies they already downloaded.
6. Handle simultaneous changes safely
Each cloud save has a revision number. When another person saves, you see a newer-version notice. If your copy is out of date, a save is rejected instead of overwriting their work. Export your unsaved changes, reload the cloud version, then reapply your edits or save a separate copy. Cell-by-cell live merging is not available yet.
7. Comments and history
- Open Conversation to add a decision or question. Comments are visible to members with workbook access.
- Open Version history to see previous cloud saves. Only the owner can open or delete history.
- Choose Open on an older version, review it, then Save to cloud to make it current.
- Delete saved history to reclaim storage while keeping the current workbook. This cannot be undone.
8. Export and keep a backup
Choose Export → Excel for an XLSX, Active sheet for CSV, or Emberkit backup for the complete saved workbook structure. XLSX export preserves values, formulas, basic cell formatting and merges; it is not a full Excel feature round-trip. CSV is values only, with potentially executable text escaped. Use JSON for Emberkit-specific settings. Always verify an exported business-critical workbook.
9. Trials, payments and storage
Open Account to see storage, workbook count and cloud saves. Start the 14-day Pro trial without a card. To subscribe, explicitly choose a monthly plan and finish Stripe checkout. A completed redirect alone does not unlock a plan; Emberkit verifies subscription status. Use Manage billing to cancel. See all current limits and prices.
